Harnoli: “A Shade of Every Woman”
Harnoli: “A Shade of Every Woman”
“I labelled my collection ‘Harnoli, as there are emotions and memories connected with the name. The name is remarkably close to my heart and soul and this is one of the ways to stay close to my father. From being an amazing person to a commendable father, just like for every daughter, my father was my hero, my inspiration, and my role model.”
“kisī ko ghar se nikalte hī mil ga.ī manzil, koī hamārī tarah umr bhar safar meiñ rahā” — Ahmad Faraz
(Translation in English- Some arrive at their destination soon upon taking the path, someone like me had to take journey of a lifetime!)
My father was a native of Harnoli’ — A Village in Pakistan. It is an emblem of unified cultural thread that weaves the entire Indian sub-continent. Harnoli’ showcases the journey from a painful turbulent partition of 1947 to the joyful vibrancy of today.
A long journey of life he embarked upon right from August 1947 in bloodshed from Harnoli (Pak) and then came various halts in bits & pieces — study Law in Ludhiana; practice law in Tarn-Taran & Amritsar; Municipal/Club/Bar politics & elections; lot of philanthropy; finally in Chandigarh from where departed to the heavenly abode!
As someone aptly puts:
“No permanence is ours; we are a wave that flows to fit whatever form,
Just another station, let us enjoy the journey & pay gratitude to Almighty.”
My father always wanted to name my daughter ‘Harnoli’ since it was very close to his heart. But somehow it did not happen and it was always there at the back of my mind. I wanted to create a wedding collection on ‘Harnoli’ and what better time to do so, at the time of my youngest daughter’s wedding.
The wedding took place at a time when COVID was just entering our lives. This reminded me of the1947 partition where the entire country was fighting a different battle altogether. And my father was a witness to India getting its Independence. Therefore, this collection is a tribute to him and all those people who had sacrificed their lives for their loved ones and their country.
