Find my ‘ME’ With Vindi Kohli
“LIFE IS A CIRCUS AND YOU’RE IN EVERY ACT”
Do you ever feel like you are a clown juggling too many things at once, spinning too many plates? Maybe at times, you feel like you are walking on a tight rope without a safety net below? Is a lion tamer unable to tame the circumstances around you? Maybe you feel like you are a freak show to the world?
‘I resonate with this, handling two businesses, juggling to make it run successful and profitable, my entire effort is revolving around this cycle. On the other front, I was handling my bachas, their career, their studies, and then home. So, I was like a clown running pillar to post and jumping from here to there.’
Beyond the curiosity and magic of the circus, there is a lot we can learn about life that happens in the circus. The circus is a symbol of life in many ways. It is wild, it is weird, unexpected clubbed with various emotions. From fear to laughter, life connects well with the circus in any sense.
“Be the ringmaster. It is your life”.
Just a few years back, suddenly I was in a big twitch when two major construction projects failed terribly. It was a difficult time and it was hard to take that jolt. My first reaction was to blame the entire system and the respective employees.
Blaming others is one of the simplest ways to run away from your own responsibilities. What I failed to realize is, that I was unable to accept that, in spite, of me being there 24x7, this kind of blunder had occurred.
It was during this commotion of life; my daughter’s wedding was fixed, and my financial condition was dreadful. My mind was going through a roller-coaster ride and my thoughts were paralyzed. I was left with only two options: either accept the situation and fight against the challenges or mend the damage. Option two would be, cry over the damages, and the failures and build negativity around me.
Thanks to my spiritual practices and the moral support of my family and children, I decided to get into the depth of the problem. Gathering all the courage and obstinate attitude I went digging into the root cause. Along with my business partner after a lot of analysis and effort, we were able to get control of the situation. It was not an easy task, weird feelings, strange encounters, mockery, hazards, everything spun around me. It was at that juncture, I felt, LIFE IS A CIRCUS.
We go through loads of challenges tagged with strange and difficult people. Sometimes the failure knocks on the door from various directions, and we panic and wait for others to take control. This is where we make a big mistake. We should start taking control of our life as well as our Emotions.
As, long as you have control over the show and you are the star of the circus, things take a different turn. Be your own ringmaster, control every little detail and manoeuvre the situation the way you want.
“You are on a tightrope. Keep your balance”
I was on the balancing act with a wedding to be planned at home and another side we were dealing with the financial and legal crises, handling the vendor payments alongside the Emotional trauma.
If I had to get over it, I must work on this with complete commitment or else My Emotions would deceive me. So, I decided to set my mind with a small exercise of shifting the mode of thought. Back then, whenever I entered the house, just before stepping in, I would go through a shift of my Energy and Thought.
I shelved all my stress and tension and converted them into a positive mood. I entered singing songs in a jolly good mood and was eager to discuss the wedding preparations with my daughter.
It was an important lesson in my life which taught me various things. That is how we need to balance ourselves when we struggle for a solution or about a situation which is in the doldrums.
Let us find the perfect balance of our life and situation and not lean toward one side. Balance is not always easy to master when juggling relationships, jobs and passion, but it’s essential for living a positive and present life.
A simple question to yourself, “Do I want to be in this mess of life?” will solve your uncertainty about life. Let us stop complicating life and start thinking simple and take the action at that moment.
“Toss your hat in the ring. Get involved”
I need to perform gracefully and bring out my inner strength. I could not afford to get scared and run away as that would be my biggest seizure. If life is a battlefield, then I am the greatest soldier of my troupe who knows only to win.
I started untangling each problem one by one and understood the intensity which helped me resolve the issues better, giving me clarity for the next step. Nothing comes easily, sometimes you must take a vigorous decision. I was adamant about not going back to being a wreck and got hold of the situation completely. To my surprise, it was then that I realized the power, skill, and expertise that was immersed deep within me.
Our lives are brief but fun like a circus coming to town. Participate in activities, hobbies, friends, and work. Do things that frighten you. Think beyond the box and reach your boundaries. Do not be only the spectator of your life. Participate in the circus and feel the magic. Take your inhibitions down and throw your hat in the ring.
“Set up a sturdy net. You will need backup”
Even though the situation was tough financially, I was positive and confident that I can pull this off. Since I received the right advice and had the right people to support me in my decisions. Thanks to my family, especially my brother Vikram, he encouraged me and rebuilt my confidence. I had to fight my own battles, but he handed me the right weapon to fight it with, and that was my own confidence and belief in myself.
Nothing is going to be perfect, there will be mistakes no matter how disciplined you try to be. At some point, you may even crash and break. Nothing could be worse than a drop without a net, so make sure you get your feet back onto a strong network of people. You may not need a lot of people, you need only those who catch you when you fall, who will dust you off, and who will help you get back up on your feet. You will not often need your safety net, but you will be thankful that you have it when you start to lose your balance.
“Life is too short to be serious”
The arrangements for the marriage were all underway and I took part in every planning. I wanted to be in the present moment and take one day at a time. I wanted to enjoy the long-awaited period of my life.
I thanked each moment, every day, for all the effort we put in. The wedding was so wonderful. I was thankful for what I had and where I began my journey. It is just that one hurdle or barrier that I was faced within my business that I was confident that I would overcome in no time.
Aren’t you a little intrigued by clowns? Something is just not right about a smile painted on a face, but at the same time, it is hard to not appreciate their ability to create comedy. Life is way too short to be serious and unhappy. Take a lesson from the circus clowns and play, share a joke, and do something so crazy and ridiculous that you crack up.
Life is packed with the unforeseen, the thrilling, and the gruesome features. It is a lot to take in, but if you examine thoroughly, beyond the curtain, underneath the glamour, you will see the prudence that lies behind the wonder and the fantasy.
